I've recently done a podcast episode titled "Should Designers and Developers Write?" Where Mario and I talked about the importance writing has on one's career.
Writing is more than just a tool for communication; it's a multifaceted ability that acts as an interface for thought, a channel for creative expression, and a path to personal emancipation.
When an individual shapes words into sentences, and sentences into stories, they are not merely inscribing characters onto a page or a digital platform. Instead, they're converting abstract thoughts and intangible concepts into comprehensible, concrete forms—akin to a magic spell.
As a freelancer, writing is not just about creating content for clients or communicating with team members. The act of writing helps freelancers to clarify their thoughts, solidify ideas, and present them in a way that is accessible to others. It allows them to articulate their unique value proposition, effectively market their skills, and build a personal brand.
In an increasingly digital and remote working world, writing forms the backbone of virtual communication. Freelancer with strong writing skills is better equipped to communicate their ideas, provide project updates, and express their needs. This can lead to more successful collaborations, better client relationships, and ultimately, a more prosperous freelance career.
Should you take this advice and start writing, please do share it with me.
